The Identity Thief

In Genesis the first chapter, Scripture reads that God said “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” Scripture also tells us that satan was a liar from the beginning (John 8:44). One thing that I have noticed lately is that he is still up to his old tricks. Genesis 3 tells us of the fall of man. The serpent entered the garden and impressed himself upon Eve and began whispering into her ear. his first approach was to cause her to doubt God’s plain instructions. satan asked her “Did God really say?..” he then says “No, God did not say…”. The second approach was pure deception. he then told her “God knows that the day you eat of it, you will be like Him.” This was what I consider to be the Great Deception as the truth of the matter was that she already was created in His likeness. This deception is still in effect today. It is fed by two extremes. The first, the concept that we are all gods…. No! We most certainly are not. The second is the idea that we do not have the right and authority to have Heaven here on earth. So we either go to the max of our ego, or we live completely beneath our means. Both are a result of ignorance of who we are. My parents are all incredible people. They have all worked hard to raise us to be strong minded people. There have been many benefits to being their child. If I were to need convincing of who I am to them, it would be rooted in deception. I would need to be deceitfully convinced to believe anything other than what they have told me, and shown me. It would cause me to live beneath my means. Many are in an identity crisis. We smoke, drink, shoot, fight, sex it up, are broken, and are confused because we do not know who we are. We think we do. We open our eyes and hearts to knowledge’s that do not belong to us because we do not know we can live out the benefits of being made in His image. The Holy Spirit told me something a few years ago. He said “To destroy a king, the enemy makes him think he is a peasant while he is a prince.” It rung in my ears so loudly because I realized many of these broken men and women were truly broken as little boys and little girls. The great deceiver had gotten to them as children. They did not learn the mannerisms of being a king and queen because they were convinced they were peasants while they were children. “If you eat it He knows you will be like Him…” We were already created in His image and likeness. Jesus said greater things you will do in My name, and whatever you ask in My name I will do it (John 14:12-14). When did we stop believing Him? First thing is first, “Did God really say?” What has God told you that you may have allowed whispers to convince you otherwise? Is it self-doubt? That’s okay! Mostly because we can’t do it on our own, it is Christ who empowers us. And to think all the “bad” we have done yet God still chose us! The murderer, the liar, the adulterer, the broken. That makes it all the sweeter so take courage! Your adversary is after you because this thing is more personal than you may realize. You may see your past when you look in the mirror, but he (satan) sees Christ. he sees the image of the One who crushed his head. I want to encourage you to pray for an appetite for the Word. Pray for a hunger to pray. It is in this that you are able to seek the face of God, and in that you will regain your identity. How can you know who you are if you don’t know yout Father. When the enemy comes to you with deception take a deep breath, smile, and say “yes, but I’m still His and He is still mine.” Do not forfeit your birthright. Be the king/queen God created you to be!
